3D websites - Why a 3D website
A 3D website offers a whole new perspective on displaying information. It's natural and offers complete freedom
Ever since the power of websites has been discovered, website builders are trying to give their creations a physical appearance and present the pages as if you can touch them. They do this by making rounded buttons, shadow effects or reflections and try to give us the illusion that the webpage is more than a flat image on a screen. We clearly want to have a 3 dimensional website, even if the used technology doesn't allow us to.
If you try to get a quick impression of the contents of a book, you flick through the pages. But websites only show you one page at a time. To compensate for this we invented menus that have submenus and sometimes the number of levels go even deeper than that.
Essentially we just want to have an instant overview, to move through the information very fast and look more closely at the things we find interesting. And this is where a 3D website can certainly help.
In a 3D website, the information can be placed inside a virtual world. You can move through the world, scan information as you go by, take something you find interesting, read it and put it back. You can group information in rooms, invite visitors to go out and explore and even allow the visitors to communicate with eachother or with representatives of your company.
