3D websites - Integration with 2D elements

The 3D part of a website is embedded in a conventional 2D page. The contents shown is read from a traditional source website at startup.

The 3D part of the website can communicate with the surrounding 2D conventional HTML part of the site. This allows a seamless integration between the 3D and 2D parts. It also prevents that the viewer will experience a 3D "TV screen" within a normal page.

If the uses clicks on something in the 3D world or if he travels somewhere, this information is be passed to the website in which it is embedded. An example of this is the 2D website menu at the bottom of this page. If you click a menu item the 3D section will follow. If you click on something in 3D, the bottom menu will respond to this and show you where you are. The searchfield at the bottom of the page is an example of this 2D - 3D interactivity as well.
